Roundwood Notes 1st June

A BIG THANK YOU
Justine would like to thank everyone for their good wishes, presents & bouquets received this week as she closed for business after many years.  She would also like to thank everyone for their custom and loyalty over the years which she much appreciated.  I would just like to wish Justine well in whatever she does and to say that the closing of her shop will leave a massive void in the Roundwood community.  Thank you Justine for your many years of service.  We will miss you.

VINTAGE CLUB
Wicklow Vintage Club proudly presents Vintage Show and Family fun Day on Sunday 14th June at 12 noon in Rathdrum Rugby Club.in aid of Friends of Wicklow Community Services.  For further information contact Sammy Woolmington. 087-2535361

NATIONAL CARERS WEEK

ROUNDWOOD DANCE
The Roundwood Parish Hall monthly Dance will be held on Friday June 19th dancing to Tony Davitt at 9.30 till late. Teas served, refreshments also available, Raffle prizes. Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing jive

BRIDGE NIGHT

ROUNDWOOD FESTIVAL MEETING
The next meeting to organise the Roundwood Festival 2015 which takes place from the 31st of July to the 2nd  of August will be in the Old School Roundwood at 8:30pm on the 22nd  of June. Anyone with ideas or wishing to get involved in organising the weekend’s events are welcome to come along.

TUG OF WAR
Irish tug of war association national championships takes place in Roundwood on June 21st at an Tochar G.A.A. grounds starting at 1pm.   Come along and enjoy an action packed evenings entertainment and cheer on our local Ballinastoe men and women’s teams.

THE GREAT ROUNDWOOD RUN/WALK
Just a few days to go for this ‘mega’ event for everyone in our greater community & surrounds so dust down the walking shoes and get set for an action-packed evening. The Great Roundwood Run/Walk takes place this Friday 5th June at Diamond Hill (where the Diamond Hill road meets the filter beds). Registration begins at 6:00pm. Admission to take part is free but we require all participants to register. Walkers will set out at 6:30pm with the Run commencing at 7pm. This ‘Mega’ event for all is to publicize the restoration of the walkway around the interior of the Vartry Reservoir (the course for the run/walk!). A Bar-B-Que and light entertainment will take place immediately afterwards in the adjoining field. Adults meal €10 with children’s €5. Reduced family rates apply. There will also be a raffle with some attractive prizes. So be sure to make your way to Diamond Hill this Friday and join in the fun. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

THANK YOU
The Roundwood Parish Hall would like to thank Gaye and Triona for running our very successfully Bridge fund raising night on May 18th, So many thanks to all bridge players that supported us on the night. Also to thank Declan O’Brien for the score keeping and to everyone who donated prizes for the competition and the raffle  They would also like to wish Justine and her staff all the best for the future.  Her shop will be sadly missed in the village

SUMMER TIME FUN:
A summer camp will take place in Roundwood N.S for 4-7 year olds for two weeks Week 1: 6th – 10th July. Week 2: 13th – 17th July. 10:00am-1:00pm.  Activities will include Art & craft, singing, dancing, baking, games and lots more fun!!  Cost €55 per week reduction for second child. QUILT EXHIBITION
Wicklow Patchwork group will hold a quilt exhibition with patchwork and lace demonstrations on 13th & 14th June in St Matthews Church , Newtownmountkennedy from 12 to 5pm (Behind  Fishers). .There is also a quilt exhibition with activities in Apple Tree Crafts from 1st – 14th June . Admission free  .All are welcome.

HOME PRODUCERS MARKET
Roundwood Home Producers Market re-opened on Sunday 29th March in the Parish Hall,  Roundwood.  Times 12 noon to 5pm.  We will have home baking, jams, vegetables, crafts, plants and much more.  New members always welcome

CHANGE OF DATE!
The Annual Moneystown & Roundwood School Sports Day will now take place on Monday 15th June and we are looking for volunteers, aged 16 or over, to help with the Field Activities. Please text Carol Curley on 086 0715939 with your name and if you have a preference for the Activity you would like to help at, be sure to include that in the text also.

COMMUNITY GAMES
A big congratulations to all the children who took part in the Co finals of the Hand Writing competition.  A special mention  must go to Conan Williams who won the gold medal and will represent Wicklow in the All Ireland Final.  Jack Wolohan took home the silver medal and Sean Mc Hugh the bronze.  Mia Gilmore, Macdaire Johnson, and Niaobd Concagh all came home with certificates  Thank you to the teachers of Moneystown and Roundwood N.S. for their interest in the competition. Our judges Suzanne Russell and Jana Verbruggen know how to pick a winner.  Well done to everybody.

CAR BOOT & BOOK FAIR

WHIST RESULTS
The results of the whist is as follows:- Top Score Maura McHug; Top Gent: Tiny Shortt; Second Gent: Tom McHugh; Top Lady: Anne Wolohan; Second Lady: Monica Brady; First Half: Jimmy Molloy; Second Half: Paddy O’Brien; Lowest Score: May Kenna; Longest Sitting: Anne Gaffney.  Raffle prizes were won by Ann Wolohan, Mary Pierce, Molly Byrne, Paddy O’Brien and Tom McHugh.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT TRIP
Roundwood Active Retirement will join Susan’s day trip cruise on the Shannon on 4th July departing Roundwood at 8.30a.m This includes a cruise on the River Queen and then to Athlone Castle and shopping. Dinner, tea scones for a price of €65.  Please give your names to Molly or Betty before Wednesday 17th June.

DANCERCISE
Dancercise in Roundwood Parish Hall on Tuesday nights from 7pm until 8pm with Adam – lose up to 800cals in one hour and have a lot of fun whilst doing it…. Come along and see what its all about. For all ages and men can join in the fun too!  A lot better than the gym.

CRAFT FAIR
Calling all Roundwood, Moneystown and local area craft workers! Do you make your own craft jewellery, wood turn, pottery, baskets, etc.? As part of the Roundwood Festival 2015 it is planned to have a craft fair on Sunday 2nd of August. If you are interested in displaying/selling your crafts to a large audience on Roundwood Street Festival Day please email info@roundwood.ie with details of your particular craft or telephone 086 8055040. Priority will be given to craft workers local to the Roundwood-Moneystown area.

PURE MILE
The Roundwood Village Pure Mile stretches from Sinnott’s Corner along the Newtown Road and then on to the Slí na Sláinte walk on the Knockatemple side. There are great plans envisaged for the area but the support of the residents and landowners is needed to make it happen. Please come along to the next short meeting which will take place at 7:15pm on Monday the 8th of June in Roundwood Old School. All residents and non-residents welcome.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL
The June meeting of the Roundwood & District Community Council will take place on Monday the 8th of June at 8pm in the Old School Roundwood. All welcome.

HUMPTY DUMPTY
Roundwood Humpty Dumpty Playgroup is on this Wednesday from 10am til 11.30am in the Parish Hall. There are toys galore to keep the little ones busy and plenty of good company and tea for everyone else!  €2/€3.50 for Cuidiu members/non-members All Welcome

ROUNDWOOD A.F.C. DINNER DANCE

SET DANCING
Set Dancing on Thursday nights in Kavanagh’s Lounge from 9pm til 11am with live music by the O’Kane Family for May and Michael & Brian for the month of June.  Beginners and visitors to the area are always welcome.  Great social night for €5!  Fun family Ceili for all ages in Annamoe centre at 8pm next Friday evening 29th May. Start your bank holiday weekend with some exercise and fun.

ANGEL HEALING
Angel Healing takes place every Monday night at 7.30 in the Parish Centre, Roundwood Village. It is non denominational. Come along, to a night of Meditation ,Relaxation and Spiritual connection, . For more information contact Mary 087 9819420

Second Hand Books now on sale in the Parish Hall. All proceeds go towards the Parish Hall Fund. Huge variety available. We will gratefully accept all donations of books to help our cause

Reunion at the ‘Old School’ Saturday, 1st August 7.30pm – 9.30pm
This will be a last chance for all former pupils and teachers of the Old School in Roundwood to come and have a look around the school, which has recently been sold.  In particular, we would like to welcome any past pupils and their families who are now living abroad to come back and share in this occasion, which will coincide with the Roundwood Street Festival (31st July to 2nd August), and promises to be a great social weekend in Roundwood village.  We will soon start to gather photos and other mementos from life at the old school so if you have any we can borrow for the occasion it will be much appreciated.

We hope you can come from near and far to join us for this occasion.  Please spread the word as we are eager to ensure all former pupils and teachers know of the event.
