Roundwood & District News 25th of October 2023

Happy Halloween!!

THE CREAM CAKE

A play, “The Cream Cake”, a comedy in 2 acts written by Don Ferguson will take place in Roundwood Parish Hall at 7.30 pm on Friday 10 November (doors open at 7 pm). There will also be music by Roundwood Ukulele Group and local musicians. Tickets are €10 and can be booked from Deirdre (086 894 5899). This promises to be wonderful night’s entertainment.

SHEEPDOG TRIALS

Roundwood Sheepdog trials take place on the 1st of November in Baltynanima off the Lough Dan Road. Follow the directional signs on the day. Spectators are always welcome.

TABLE QUIZ

Roundwood Golf Society Annual Table Quiz in aid of Roundwood Cancer Support will take place on Friday 27th October in Kavanagh’s Vartry House at 8pm. Quiz master is Martin Byrne and a great night of craic is assured. Come along a table of four is only €40.00. It’s a fantastic local cause and helps the people of our community so well when they need it most.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL AGM

The Roundwood & District Community Council AGM will take place in the Roundwood Parish Hall on Monday the 13th of November at 8pm. All members of the community are most welcome.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE

Parish of St. Laurence O’Toole, Roundwood and Moneystown:  Our Annual November Mass of Remembrance for those who funerals took place in our Churches in the past year will take place in Roundwood Church on Saturday 4th November at 7 pm, and in Glendalough Church on Sunday 5th November at 11.30 am

LOTTO

Results of the lotto draw held on Sunday 22nd October. There was no jackpot winner, the numbers drawn were 8, 10, 11 & 14. There were twelve match three winners. Stephen Donnolly, Jackie Blackburn, Diane McCoy, M Hall, Keith & Lorna, Ian McAulay, Lisa Duffy, Jenny Byrne, Sabrina Smyth, Sabrina Smyth, Chris & Shane and Lily Doyle . Next week’s jackpot will be €13,300.

ANNAMOE BOWLS

A reminder that Bowls takes place every Tuesday in Annamoe Community Centre at 8 pm. New members always welcome. Entry €3 per person. A great way to meet new friends, take up a new hobby and participate in competitions.

Sale of Work 2023 –The Sale of Work will take place on Sunday 3rd December.

Monday Mornings in Roundwood Parish Hall from 10 am to 12 noon, with Rory Egan. This is a 10 week course suitable for people who wish to take up Bridge. We will take you through a step-by-step introduction to the great game of Bridge.

We will teach you both Bidding and Play and then help you play some hands specially prepared for that subject under our supervision. A full set of notes will be provided for each lesson. You are very welcome to join us now, we’ll catch you up! Why not spread the word to relatives and friends to let them know what a great game this is? Roundwood Men’s Shed: The shed is open on Tuesdays between 10 and 12 and is located at Pat Carr’s place in Knockraheen (A98AH02). Our agenda is wide and varied – a bit like ‘whatever you’re having yourself’. Mostly though, the shed is about listening and caring and sharing. Our meetings begin with some gentle exercises for those so inclined. But the tea and chat with cake and biscuits is an integral part of what we are all about.

MOBILE LIBRARY 

Wicklow County Council Mobile Library will be in Roundwood Village on Thursday November 2nd from 10am until 11.15am and also from 2.10pm until 4.30pm. Come along and join the library. It’s a free service and is a fantastic way to pick up any book that suits your reading interests.

 45 CARD GAME

45 Card Game every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8pm. Teas served.  All are welcome.

RHS TALK

He will be talking to the society on Tuesday 24th October in Roundwood Parish hall, all welcome. Refreshments will be served.

ART EXHIBITION & CONCERT 

There will be an exhibition of paintings, sculpture and wood turning in Calary Church starting at 7 pm on Friday 20th October, continuing between 11 am and 6 pm on Saturday 21st and between 12 noon and 5 pm on Sunday 22nd October. There will also be plants and country produce on sale between 11 am and 4 pm on Saturday 21st. 20% commission on all art sales will go to local charities.

To help launch this event, there will be a concert by Clare McCague (classical harp) and Catrina Scullion (soprano) starting at 8 pm on Friday 20th October. As it is opening the Art Exhibition, entry to the concert is free and there is no need to book. Just turn up and enjoy the evening.

Free digital skills course starting this Thursday 12th of October in the Brockagh Centre Laragh

HISTORICAL SOCIETY TALK

The Roundwood Creative Hub is a new crafter’s retail space in the Roundwood Parish Hall taking place on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. October dates: 1st and 15th from 11 am until 4 pm.
