Roundwood & District News 15th April 2024

HISTORICAL TALK

Roundwood & District Historical, Folklore & Archaeological Society. A local history talk, about Junkers 52 which crashed in the Dublin / Wicklow mountains 12 August 1946 will take place in the Parish Hall on Tuesday 23 April at 8 pm. Presented by Bill Nelson.

He will describe events surrounding the accident. A flight left Paris Le Bourget for Dublin airport on 12 August 1946. There were five crew and 21 passengers. It never arrived at its destination. The passengers were French Girl guides invited by their Irish counterparts to relieve their wartime tribulations. Due to a miracle and several lucky episodes, all the occupants survived. This is a great story of resilience, perseverance, and the will to survive.
