Roundwood Notes 30/01/2017

MAGICAL EVENING OF MUSIC
As part of the nationwide fundraising weekend for Give Us A Song for The Caroline Foundation for cancer research (Cancer Clinical Research Trust) Stagebratz Starz will host A Magical Evening of Music in St. Laurence O’Toole Church, Roundwood on Sunday next the 5th February at 4pm in aid of The Caroline Foundations “GiveUSASong” in aid of Cancer Clinical Research Trust (CCRT). ) There will be a beautiful array of performances on the night from Stagebratz Stars, Roundwood Choir, roundwood Folk Group, Lorcan Nolan, Will Fitzpatrick, Stephen O’Sullivan, Jennifer Rochford, Dan Plummer, Roundwood Ceoltamhas and many more. Afterwards there will be refreshments in Roundwood Parish Centre where there will be a raffle. This is a wonderfrul event for all the family to enjoy and all proceeds from the event will be given to the CCRT. (Bring a cushion for your comfort Admission is €5 and all donations are greatly accepted. For further information please contact 083 1563897. This will be a fantastic evening and such a worthy cause. ART CLASSES
Roundwood and District Community Council with the support of Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board are running an 8 week art class in Roundwood Parish Hall starting in early February. There are a limited number of places available. Places must be booked in advance. If you are interested please call (0404) 64050 or 086 0499149. KNOCK PILGRIMAGE
A pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday 23rd April leaving Laragh at 7.30a.m. and Roundwood at 8a.m. sharp. Breakfast, dinner and bus is €60 per person. All money to be paid in full before 1st April. Names to Susan at 087 6273032 anytime a.s.a.p. Mike Denver in concert in the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy on 23rd March. PURE MILE
A meeting of the residents, landowners and anyone interested in getting involved in the 2017 Pure Mile in the Baltynanima area will take place on Thursday the 2nd of February at 7:30pm in Roundwood Parish Centre. Everyone most welcome

TIDY TOWNS
As Spring approaches it’s that time of year when work starts on tidy towns in the area. A meeting for the Adopt A Spot volunteers and anyone interested in helping out with the tidy towns effort in the area will take place at 8pm on Thursday 2nd of February in Roundwood Parish Hall. All welcome

MONEYSTOWN DANCE
The Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday 10 th February from 9.30 pm till 12. Teas served, refreshments also available, door prizes. Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing, jive, etc.

LOTTO RESULTS
There was no jackpot winner in last weeks lotto draw. The numbers drawn were 1, 7, 24 & 26. There were three match three winners, Breda Coughlan, Mary Doyle & Ray Clavic. Next weeks jackpot will be €10,600.

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB.
New member Rory Egan with partner Gaye McGettigan took 1st place for North/South on Monday 23rd January, 2nd Seamus Kennedy and Pauric Gleeson, 3rd Joan Shortt and Maura Gaskin and 4th Catherine Halligan and Monica Brady. Phil Power and Margaret Bolger were victors for East/West, 2nd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien, 3rd John Loscher and Marie Kavanagh and 4th Marian Davies and Teresa Leahy.

002 BRIDGE CLUB.
Taking 1st place for North/South on Friday 27th January were Judy Skates and Rowena Brady, 2nd Jim McNamara and Seamus Kennedy, 3rd Mollie and Margaret Byrne and 4th Nancy O Brien and Catherine McGillycuddy. Playing their cards right for East/West were Noeleen Redmond and Margaret Bolger, 2nd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien, 3rd Elizabeth Belton and Philomena Kenna and 4th Kay Plunkett and Mary Murphy.

MEN’S SHED
Roundwood Men’s Shed continues on Tuesdays between 10 and 12 noon at Pat Carr’s place in Knockraheen. Plans are underway to get down and dirty with raised bed gardening and wood turning lessons for those interested. If there is an unused woodturning lathe ‘out there’ we will be delighted to give it a good home and put it to good use. Eight free lessons on the use of laptops/tablets/ smartphones commence in Coláiste Chraobh Abhann, Kilcoole on Fri. 20th January. This will be free 121 (one to one) tuition and open to all ‘mature students’, shedders or non-shedders – male or female. 11.15 a.m. to 12.35 a.m. are the times and a cuppa with be served to facilitate social interaction. Wicklow Hospice and Vartry Walks Project, Roundwood are partnering to organise a joint fundraising walk. The 10km Moonlight Walk around Vartry Reservoir in Roundwood will take place on Saturday, 11th February at 6.00pm (sign in from 5.30pm at Kavanagh’s Vartry House). Here you will be part of a group who know that looking after their well being is so important. You will learn how to meditate and be still. To connect to your Angels and be supported by the wonderful people who have attended this group in Roundwood for 13 years. Rebecca Delamere will be teaching group Maths lessons on a weekly basis in the Parish Hall in Roundwood for secondary school students. Class sizes will be very small and there will be classes at different levels. These lessons provide support for students who may be struggling with Maths in school, support for students who are aiming for high grades and also prepare students for their Maths exams. All are welcome to these lessons.Newcomers always welcome and great way to meet some locals. Cost for night of dancing and entertainment is still only €5.

PANTO TICKETS ON SALE
The big week has arrived! Roundwood Variety Group’s Panto is back and this year’s show, Snow White & The Babes In The Wood is as exiting and hilarious as last years big success, The Pied Piper. This Panto is a combination of magical stories from the brothers Grimm featuring Snow White (Ciara Conalty), Hansel & Gretel, Red Riding Hood (Lucy Shortt), Her Granny (Maria Magee), The Wolf (Derek Neilson), Three little pigs, a handsome prince (Shay Nolan), Rapunzel (Bryony Conalty) and The Evil Queen (Edel Conalty). Not forgetting to mention The Seven Dwarfs and many more! It’s a side splitting performance not to be missed! Show dates: Friday the 27th of January 8pm, Saturday the 28th of January 3pm & 8pm and Sunday the 29th of January 1pm & 6pm. If a bit of jogging is one of your New Year’s resolutions then running under the street lights for adults/teenagers provides the perfect opportunity.  All fitness levels are welcome as everyone runs at their own pace. LOTTO RESULTS

A huge congratulations to Bridie Stacey who scooped the jackpot of €19,400 in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were 2, 8, 27 & 29.  There were seven match three winners, Dinah Newsome, James Kavanagh, Tom Walsh, Amy Mitchell, Joe & Alannah, Sandra Carroll & Chaps.  Jackpot stands at €10,000

Yoga classes will resume on Thurs. 19th January in Roundwood Parish Centre.  Class run from 7.30p.m to 9.00p.m for 10 week Course.  Class will include Asana(Physical stretches), Pranayama (Breathing exercises) Relaxation and Meditation.  Course of 10 classes costs 100 euro with a minimum of 50 euro due on first night.  Contact Anne-Marie on 0868367578 (after 12th Jan.)
