 VARIETY A.G.M

Roundwood Variety Group will hold their upcoming AGM in the Old School Roundwood on Wednesday the 4th of September 2013 at 9pm. Anyone interested in helping out in any way backstage, front of house, costumes, makeup etc., please come along and learn what we are all about.

 HEALING MASS

St Kevin’s ParishChurch, Laragh would like to invite all denominations to our healing mass with Eddie Stone on Saturday the 7th of September at 7.00pm. All those who have experienced the loss of a loved one, those who are suffering from depression or a feeling of helplessness and all who may be suffering from ill health, to bring Gods healing to their lives. The results of the whist in aid of the Senior Citizens is as follows:- Top Score: Biddy O’Connor; Top Gent: Joe Coleman; Second Gent: Pat Fisher; Top Lady: Patricia Byrne; Second Lady: May Kenna; First Half: Jimmy Molloy; Second Half: Ann Pierce; Lowest Score: Margaret Kennedy & Longest Sitting: Lucy Molloy.  Raffle prizes were won by Kitty Kennedy, Mary Pierce, May Kenna, & Joe Coleman.  The next whist will be on Wednesday 4th September in The Parish Centre.

 ROUNDWOOD DANCE

There will be dancing in The Community Centre in Roundwood on 20th September with Music by Images, on October 18th music will be by The Wicklow Man and on 15th November music is by Tony Davitt.  All are welcome.

THANK YOU

To all who attended the Blessing of the Graves in RoundwoodCemetery recently, a very big thank you and a very special word of thanks to all who helped with the evenings ceremony.  To Fr. Paul and his assistants Betty and Dale, Sean Kenna who provided the sound, Mary and her choir, the hardworking stewards who once again made a difficult job look easy, to our Gardai who ensured the smooth flow of traffic and the members of the Hall committee who welcomed everybody back afterwards for refreshments. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir agus Rath De oraibh.

 SCHOOL REUNION

Due to the huge amount of interest  for the Rathdrum Vocational School (Rathdrum Tech) reunion, ALL students and teachers who attended R.V.S at any stage are welcome to come along to the reunion on October 5th, 2013 at 8PM at Lynham’s of Laragh as part of the Gathering 2013.

 YOGA

A new series of Yoga Classes will commence on Thursday 12th September in Roundwood Parish Centre.  Class starts at 7.30pm and runs to 9pm and will include, Posture work (ascina)  breathing techniques (Premayama) Relaxation and Meditation.  Each class will cost €10 but a commitment of €60 for six sessions is required on the first night.  Class is suitable for all fitness levels.  Further details and booking please contact Anne Marie McKenna on 086 8367578

RoundwoodAFCAcademy training every Saturday.  All new players welcome Mondays 6-7 – under 9 & under 10, Wednesday 6-7pm – under 11, 6.30-8pm.  Monday & Thursday – under 12, 7-8pm.  Wednesday 8-9 under 13 Under 14 – TBC.  All registration & fees for players to be done by 27th August.  Players registered before this date will be in a free draw to win tickets to watch Ireland play in the World Cup qualifiers.  Astro pitch available to rent €35 per hour Contact 086 3841027

MUSIC IN CALARY

The final concert of the 2013 Music in Calary season will take place in CalaryChurch on Friday August 30th starting at 8.00pm and will be a recital by The Schumann String Quartet, which comprises Mia Cooper (violin), Anna Cashell (violin), Joachim Roewer (viola) and William Butt (cello). Their programme consists of Ravel: String quartet, Webern: Langsamer Satz and Beethoven: op. 59 no. 2 in E minor.  Further information and tickets for this concert, which are €15 (€10 concessions) can be obtained by emailing derekneilson@eircom.net.

 

TOURS 2013

The Roundwood & District Community Council is now registered to administer the Seniors Alert Scheme. The Scheme aims to encourage community support for vulnerable people in our communities, provides grant assistance towards the purchase and installation of monitored personal alarms to enable older persons to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.   If you know someone who would benefit from one of these alarms or would like further information please contact Monica 086 8055040 or Betty 01 2818703.

 CANCER RESEARCH NIGHT

There will be a great night of music, song and dancing in The Grand Hotel on this Saturday the 17th August , in aid of the Cancer Clinical Research Trust which is headed by Professor Crown.  The night will kick off with a cabaret at 8.30pm and dancing with Sean Olohan and his band will take place from approximately 10pm until late.  Tickets are only €10 each and can be bought from The Grand Hotel, Wicklow, Track One, Main Street, Wicklow, Justine’s, Roundwood and Mary Margaret Molloy 086 8287858.  Please come along and support this very worthy cause while having a very enjoyable night.

HERITAGE WEEK AT CALARY

CalaryChurch will be open during Heritage Week, between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday 17, Sunday 18 and Sunday 25 August. Free guided tours of the Church and grounds are available together with tea, coffee, plants and market produce

HIDDEN HISTORY WALK IN THE WICKLOW UPLANDS

As part of Heritage Week 2013, Roundwood & Dictrict Historical & Folklore Society in co-operation with Wicklow Uplands Council are hosting a guided Hidden History Walk in the Wicklow Uplands. Starting at Castlekevin, travelling through the village of Annamoe, then traversing the old road to Derralossary, the walk will cover historical aspects & points of interest along the route. The walk will be led by local history experts and segments of the walk will access land not usually open to the public.The meeting point will be at the Parish Centre, Roundwood, Co Wicklow, and from there you will be transferred by minibus to Castlekevin to return on foot via Annamoe and Derralossary Church. A progressive 45 card drive will take place in Aras an Tochar on Sunday 25th August at 8pm in aid of the club.  Come along for a great night.

RathdrumVocationalSchool (Rathdrum Tech) are holding their school reunion, for students/teachers, and anyone who attended the school between September 1972- June 1976 (inclusive). Our weekly sessions will continue on Thursday nights in Kavanagh’s Lounge from 9pm til 11am with a lesson from 8.30pm for any newbie’s who would like to ‘give it a go’. Music this month will be supplied by Michael & Brian. For anyone who has been thinking about trying it or for others who would like to return to it, now is the time – everyone is always welcome and we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.
