Roundwood & District News 25th of November 2019

ROUNDWOOD PLOUGHING SOCIETY

Roundwood Ploughing Society is looking for information, paper clippings and photographs that anyone may have relating to The Roundwood Ploughing Society down through the years The Society need them as soon as possible for a presentation for the Historical Society early in the New Year. FOLK GROUP

Roundwood Folk Group are on the look-out for a guitarist/musician to help them in the New Year with Saturday night mass.  Very flexible not every Saturday & not a big commitment but very enjoyable.  Please contact Helena on (086) 3000194 if you would like to do it.

Badminton continues on a Tuesday morning from 9.30a.m.  All are welcome.

PARISH SALE OF WORK

Roundwood And Moneystown Christmas Sale of Work will take place in the GAA complex on Sunday December 1st from 12 – 4pm.  A great day out for all the family with something for everyone.  All good quality donations for the various stalls can be left with Maureen in the Parish Office between 9am and 12.30pm (Mon-Thurs) before November 28th.  In particular we are looking for bottles for the Bottle Stall and home produce for the cake stall.  Come along on the day to visit SANTA and pick up some fantastic festive Christmas gifts.

There will be a dance in Roundwood Parish Centre on Friday 20th December with music by The Wicklow Man.  All are welcome

Sunshine Fitness will be starting ‘Baby and Me’, ‘Golden Oldies’ (for aged 65+) and ‘Curvy Whirlies ‘ (for plus size women) fitness classes in the parish hall from September 17th.  Please contact Caitríona on 0876035780 for more information.

WALKING GROUP

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7pm this Wednesday at the Coach House car park.  All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximately one hour.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

We are delighted to report that the Roundwood & District Community Council has secured grant funding from Co Wicklow Partnership for Christmas Lights in Roundwood village. Our thanks to the local property owners who have kindly agreed to allow the erection of the lights and access to electricity for same. Unfortunately the grant aid only covers 75% of the project costs. Any donations most welcome and can be placed in the donations box in Keith Grant Butchers. Many thanks

WHIST RESULTS

The results of the whist is as follows:- Top Score:- Marie Magee, Top Lady: Patricia Byrne, Second Lady: Maura McHugh, Top Gent: Margaret Kennedy, Second Gent: Jimmy Molloy, First Half: Anne Pierce, Second Half: Richie Cullen, Lowest Score: Molly Byrne & Longest Sitting: Martin Byrne.  The raffle prizes were won by: Anne Pierce, Maura McHugh, Richie Cullen, Martin Byrne & Patricia Byrne  The next whist will be this Wednesday 4th December in the Parish Centre

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB

North/South winners on Monday 18th July were Rowena Brady & Paddy O Brien, Brid Clancy & Phil Power were 2nd, Teresa Leahy & Marion Davis were 3rd and 4th  place went to Nancy O Brien & Catherine Halligan.  East/West winners were Monica Brady & Gertie Fee, 2nd John Loscher & Declan O Brien, 3rd Clare Sally & Kay Plunkett and 4th Seamus Kennedy & Pauric Gleeson.

002 BRIDGE CLUB

Monica Brady & June Digby played their cards right on Friday 22nd November to take 1st place for North/South, 2nd Catherine McGillycuddy & Nancy O’Brien and 3rd Kay Plunkett & Kitty Heslin.  East/West victors were Bridie Nolan & Maura Gaskin, 2nd Rowena Brady & Maria Magee and 3rd Phil Kenna & Liz Belton.

LOTTO

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week.  The numbers drawn were 5, 24, 26 & 30. There four match three winners, Amanda Walsh, Darina Dawson, Mary Doyle & Maebh Egan.  Next week’s jackpot will be €17,200.

MARKET

Our weekly set dancing sessions continue in Kavanagh’s Lounge on Thursday nights.  All are always welcome – whether you have ever or never danced before  Session starts at 8.30 til 10.30 and cost is still only €5 for a goodnight of exercise.

A pilgrimage To Medjugorje will take place on October 7th 2020 for seven days at a cost of €679.00 fully inclusive  There will be a discount of €100 if paid in full by December 13th otherwise €200.00 deposit secures booking.  This trip will be accompanied by a Spiritual Director  The accommodation is close to the Church. CABARET

The annual cabaret in aid of the Senior Citizens Christmas party will take place in The Royal Hotel Glendalough on Saturday 23rd November.  Do come along and support, music & lots of raffle prizes on the night.

GOLDEN JUBILEE

To mark the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Church of the Sacred Heart Moneystown, Archbishop Dr. Diarmuid Martin, D.D. will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving there on Sunday November 24th at 11.30 am.  Mass in St Laurence O’Toole Church Roundwood will take place at the earlier time of 10am on that day.  Following the Mass there will be refreshments in Moneystown Community Hall.  All donations of sandwiches and baked goods would be greatly appreciated. The Hall will be open to received donations from 10am on the morning.  Looking forward to seeing you all there.

FUND RAISER WALK

A fundraiser walk will take place on Sat 23rd Nov 2019.  It is an event on Facebook Wicklow Wells page.  This is a relaxed guided walk in the hills with views of Glendalough to an ancient well called Fraughan’s Well (The Blessed Well)in Trooperstown.  The walk will include some information on the traditions and rituals both prechristian and christian. of Co.Wicklow’s Holy Wells (approx 120)  Meeting point Tropperstown Car Park near Laragh 10.45am. Walk is from 11am to 1pm with anyone who has time welcome to Glendalough Green Laragh for tea/coffee afterwards.  Cost: Donations for info plaques and marker stones for two wells in west Wicklow.  Suggested donations:€5 to €15 euro to any amount you want to donate.  100% of the funds raised go towards materials to mark and promote public access to these special places.  A reasonable level of fitness required as some of the walk is uphill.Not suitable for children and no dogs allowed.  For further info: Wicklow Wells Facebook Page.  Rosaleen Durkin email: rosaleendurkin8@gmail.com

North/South winners on Monday 11th November were Maria Magee & Judy Skates, 2nd Brid Clancy & Catherine McGillycuddy and sharing 3rd place were Monica Brady, Catherine Halligan & Margaret Bolger & Rowena Brady.   East/West winners were Claire Sally & Margaret Byrne, 2nd Marian Davis & Teresa Leahy and 3rd Ger Lenihan & Paddy O Brien.

002 BRIDGE CLUB

Friday 15th November saw Margaret Bolger & Noeleen Redmond taking 1st place once again for North/South, followed closely by Monica Brady and June Digby and 3rd place went to Maria Magee & Rowena Brady.   Phil Kenna & Liz Belton took 1st place for East/west, 2nd JIm McNamara & Kitty Heslin and 3rd John Loscher & Kay Plunkett.

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week.  The numbers drawn were 3, 10, 18, & 22. VARIETY NIGHT

A Laragh Variety night will take place next Saturday the 16th November starting at 8.30pm.  A variety of acts including, recital & comedy, story telling & music & drama.  Promises to be a night of great entertainment with a raffle on the night.  €10 admission & all proceeds go to the Senior Citizens Christmas party.  So come along and support a great cause & enjoy the entertaining night.

GOLDEN JUBILEE
