PLOUGHING RESULTS

Roundwood Ploughing Society held their annual Ploughing match last Saturday the 24th of February.  Special thanks is extended to Eugene Shott for providing the site, the Judges, Competitors and our many sponsors without whom we could not run this event and to whom we are very grateful for their continued support.    

 The results are as follows: Conventional Two Furrow:  1st Robert Roe, 2nd John Shortt, 3rd Kevin Doran. Conventional Three Furrow: 1st Richard Keegan, 2nd Billy Donnelly, 3rd Liam Hamilton. Vintage 2 Furrow Mounted: 1st Paddy Doyle, 2nd Mark Acres. Classic Tractor:  1st George Lawless. Two Furrow Reversible:  1st Tom Donnelly. Horse Class: 1st Tommy Pierce. Loy: 1st Eugene Stephens. 2nd Jane Stephens.

LOTTO 

Results of the draw held on Sunday February 25th. There was no jackpot winner, the numbers drawn were, 8, 14, 19 & 20. There were eight match three winners. Helen Coleman, J Synott Doyle, Justin, Skye Mayberry, Raymond Sherry, Mary & Julia, Debbie O’Neill and Naoise Cullen. Next jackpot will be €18,100.    

SHEEP DOG TRIALS 

Further wins for Roundwood Man at Sheep Dog Trials. Congratulations to Adam Sharkey for finishing 3rd in the Senior Class of the Three Provinces Nursery Final held in Dingle, Co. Kerry recently. Adam also finished 2nd in the Junior Class beaten by one point for first place.  Adam and his sheepdogs ‘Beth’ and ‘Ace’ put in a tremendous effort so well done all!  Congratulations also to Philip Maguire from Glencullen on finishing 2nd in the Farmers class in Co. Kerry recently.  

Adam has now been selected to compete on the Irish team in the forthcoming National Nursery finals due to be held in the UK in March. Best of luck to Adam and Beth who will be accompanying him on this trip!

ANNAMOE STORY NIGHT  

Our first Rambling House/Story night of 2024 in the Annamoe Centre will be on Friday March 8th at 8pm.  Entry by Donation and all are welcome.  Any queries to 086-8749092.    

MENS SHED  

Roundwood Men’s Shed: The Shed continues to meet every Tuesday in Knockraheenat Pat Carr’s place (A98 AH02) from 10 to 12 a.m. approximately. We care and listen and share over a cuppa or two. Occasionally we break into song and we have a few fine musicians and singers in our ranks. The experts tell us that music is good for the soul and the mental health of all. 

We do some gentle exercises and recently we have been planting trees along the Vartry Trail.
We are planning to pay a visit to Leinster House on Thursday 25 April for a conducted tour and we also plan to visit the National Ploughing Championships where we have been promised VIP treatment. New faces will be very welcome in the Shed. For further information feel free to call or text 086 8650588 at any time.

BRIDGE RESULTS 

Monday, 19th February 2024, 4.5 tables. N/S 1st Monica Brady and Catherine McGillycuddy 2nd Ger Lenihan and Seamus Kennedy. E/W 1st Margaret Byrne and Maura Gaskin 2nd Brid Clancy and Catherine Halligan. There is a game of social bridge on Friday morning at 10:00am in the community hall. All players are welcome to join.

ROUNDWOOD & DISTRICT COMMUNITY COUNCIL 

Roundwood & District Community Council E.G.M. will take place on Monday 11th March 2024 at 8pm in Roundwood Parish Hall to discuss the ongoing legal action against members of the Roundwood & District Community Council.

PLOUGHING MATCH

Conventional, Vintage and Classic Tractors all catered for on stubble ground with Horse Classes only on lay ground.  Please note all competitors must register by Wednesday the 21st of February at 6pm with Brendan Power @ 087 2420204.  Spectators always welcome, there will be a Chip Van on site. Many thanks to all our sponsors for their continued support.

Pilgrimage to knock will be on Saturday 27th April 2024. Bus leaving the square Rathdrum 7.30 am. Roundwood 8am breakfast and dinner in Tyrrells pass castle €80 per person all money to be paid before Easter 30th March. Contact Susan 0876273032.

45 Card Game every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8 pm. Teas served. All are welcome.
