Tidy Towns Clean Up

The next clean up day is Saturday February 3rd. While the vegetation is low it’s a great time to see all the buried litter so please head out over the weekend and do a little wherever you live!

If you like company while you work why  not meet up with other volunteers at 8am outside the Old School in Roundwood on Saturday 3rd of February.

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were:- 5, 6, 25 & 28.  There were two match three winners, Martina Kelly & John O’Connor.  Next weeks jackpot will be €10,600

TIDY TOWNS CLEAN-UP

The next Roundwood Tidy Towns Clean-up will take place on Saturday the 3rd of February. Feel free to clean up along your road or estate or if you would like some company join the volunteers at the Old School from 8am. A limited number of litter pickers, gloves, etc. are available by calling 086 8055040. All willing hands welcome!

ROUNDWOOD COMMUNITY GAMES

Swimming:

Swimming starts Friday 2nd February – Friday 2nd March from 8 to 9 pm in Coral Leisure Centre Wicklow.   Following ages and strokes: U8 Freestyle, U10 Freestyle/Backstroke, U12 Freestyle/Backstroke/Breaststroke, U14 Freestyle/Backstroke/Butterfly, U16 Freestyle/Backstroke/Butterfly.  Swim offs will be held on Friday March 2nd with County Finals on Saturday March 10th at 3pm in Arklow.  Remember age cut-off is 31st July.  For further info contact Seamus on 0868557962.

ANNAMOE STORY TELLING

Come along to Annamoe Centre for a Valentine Story /Rambling House on Valentines night  Wednesday the 14th February at 8 o’clock.  All are welcome.

HISTORICAL A.G.M.

The AGM of the Roundwood & District Historical & Folklore Society will take place on Tuesday, February 27th, 2018 at 20.00 in the Parish Hall, Roundwood.  Please note that only paid-up members of the Society, on the day of the AGM are eligible to vote at the AGM

ROUNDWOOD HISTORICAL

The next talk in the Roundwood Historical Society’s 2018 Series will take place on Tuesday, February 13th at 8pm in the Roundwood Parish Hall.  The title of the talk is “Recent Archaeological discoveries at Newtownmountkennedy” and will be given by archaeologist Paul Duffy. Paul is a site director with Irish Archaeological Consultancy Ltd., a Kilcoole based company who were responsible for the archaeological testing and excavation in Newtownmountkennedy.  Paul has supervised and directed numerous prehistoric and medieval excavations throughout Ireland. Paul’s international experience includes supervising excavations in France as well as leading large scale heritage surveys and excavations in Western Australia.  In addition to private sector work, Paul has extensive experience in community archaeology and he was awarded Royal Irish Academy excavation grants in 2013 and 2014 for his project Grassroots Archaeology and Irish Research Council funding for his Resurrecting Monuments project carried out in partnership with UCD in 2015 and 2016.  Paul is a serving board member of the Institute of Archaeologist of Ireland. He has published in numerous volumes and has lectured on his works in Ireland, France, Australia and the UK. His research interests include community archaeology, medieval settlement and defensive architecture. His book ‘From Carrickfergus to Carcassonne – the epic deeds of Hugh de Lacy during the Albigensian Crusade’ has just been published.  We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 13th February at 8pm. The entrance fee for members is €3 and for non-members is €5 – payable at the door.

Rowena Brady and Judy Skates were the winners for North/South on Monday 22nd January, 2nd Monica Brady and Bridie Nolan, 3rd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien and 4th Teresa Leahy and Marian Davies.  1st place for East/West went to Nancy O Brien and Brid Clancy, 2nd Pauric Gleeson and Seamus Kennedy, 3rd John Loscher and Maura Gaskin and 4th Catherine McGillycuddy and Gertie Fee

002 BRIDGE CLUB.

On Friday 26th January Judy Skates and Rowena Brady continued their winning spree by taking 1st ploace once again for North/South, 2nd Monica Brady and June Digby, 3rd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien and 4th Molly Byrne and Rachel Judd.

ROUNDWOOD MEN’S SHED

Roundwood Men’s Shed: Following our most recent series of digital lessons one of our SHEDDERS has decided to take his fully charged mobile with him when he completes the life marathon which we have referred to in the past. The phone will be taken with him to the grave and when he gets to the ‘other side’ he will be able to communicate with the SHEDDERS down on earth and fill them in on the good life up above. “That is not going to happen”, one of the SHED wits commented,” because with the phone melting in the flames, there’ll be no signal coming from where you’re going”.  As well as the tea and cake and biscuits, there is regular banter in the SHED at the gatherings on Tuesdays between 10 and 12. You will be assured of a warm welcome if you come along.

CEILI DANCING LESSONS

Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 to 9pm. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.

MONEYSTOWN COMMUNITY CENTRE

Moneystown Community Centre Cards will continue as usual on Tuesday nights at 8 pm while our Moneystown Dance will return on Friday 9th March

MORNING BADMINTON

Tuesday morning badminton continues from 9.30am – beginners always welcome. Some rackets are available.

MATHS LESSONS

BEAUTY & THE BEAST

LOCAL BOOK LAUNCH

Congratulations to Margaret Connolly on her recent book launch in Chester Beattys.  A huge crowd turned out for the launch & we were entertained with readings from this fabulous book  “Aghowle-Where The Divil Ate The Tinker”  Five years of hard work went into gathering the information from locals for the book, but it was worth all the labour as it’s a fantastic read.  The book is currently available from Ann Duffy’s Florist shop in Newtownmountkennedy, Bridge Street Books in Wicklow Town, McCoy’s shop in Laragh, and Avondale Sports shop Main St. Rathdrum & The Green Room Florists in Roundwood. YOGA CLASS

Yoga classes will resume in Roundwood Parish Centre on Thursday 25th January, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Class will include: Asana – physical stretches for flexibility.  Yoga Nidra- deep relaxation.
