           Fishing on the Vartry Reservoirs

The Vartry Reservoirs hold brown trout. The trout in the Upper Reservoir are wild while trout stocks in the Lower Reservoir are augmented by occasionally stocking them with small trout that become naturalised.

Fly fishing is permitted under license on the Vartry Reservoirs which are currently managed by Dublin City Council. The season runs from March 1st to October 12th. Day tickets to fish the shoreline of the Lower Reservoir only (the Upper is not safe for wading) are available from Dublin City Council and can be purchased at the Vartry Waterworks at the Lower Reservoir, telephone 01 2818368. Boat fishing is let to County Wicklow Anglers Association.

The average size of the trout here is 0.75lb.

                          The Annamoe Trout Fishery

The Annamoe Trout Fishery is located just 3 miles from Roundwood on the Glendalough Road (R755) in the quaint hamlet of Annamoe. It provides great flyfishing for stocked brown and rainbow trout. A range of permit rates are available and casting tuition can be arranged with advance notice. The fishery can cater for corporate groups and clubs as well as individual anglers. A bait pond is available for visiting juveniles and families. Tackle is also available for hire. This 4 acre fishery which is nestled close to the banks of the scenic Avonmore River. The average size of trout is 3lbs.
