TABLE QUIZ

The ladies G.A.A. team is holding a table quiz on Saturday May 28th at 7.30pm in Tochar House (Fannings)  All funds raised are for essential kit for the team! All support and donations would be greatly appreciated.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT INVITATION

The Wicklow Active Retirement has invited Roundwood Active Retirement to a Bealtaine Day in The De La Salle, Wicklow on Friday 27th May.  Roundwood A.R. will be providing a bus from the Parish Centre leaving at 11.30am and returning at 3pm.  Anyone interested should contact Betty on 2818703

BLESSING OF THE GRAVES

The Blessings of the Graves in Roundwood Cemetery will take place on Sunday 24th July at 12.30 pm.(Please note change of date and time!)

PARISH HALL

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were 3, 4, 13 & 24.  There were nine match three winners, Ger Lowe, Phoebe Madrell, Shirley Kavanagh, Tara Byrne, Cecilia Byrne, Eilish King, Hannah Hayes, S. Wolohan & Keigh Murphy  Next weeks jackpot will be €19,400.

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB

Clare O Connor had a very good first night on Monday 16th May when she took joint 1st place for North/South with her partner Gaye MCgettigan sharing 1st place with Clare and Gaye were Paddy O Brien and Catherine McGillycuddy whilst Margaret Byrne and Triona Woodroofe were 3rd.   1st for East/West were the Kennedys Seamus and Magdaleen, Clare Sally and Pamela Byrne were 2nd and Derek Neilson and Mary Pierce were 3rd.  All Bridge players near and far please note a Benefit Bridge Night will be held next Monday night 30th May in aid of Roundwood  Community Hall starting at 8pm and takes place in the hall in Roundwood.  Entry is £10 euros per person, there will be supper and a raffle on the night starting at 7.45 and everyone is welcome.

002 BRIDGE CLUB 

In an individual competition held on Friday 20th May John Loscher, Margaret Bolger and Noeleen Redmond shared 1st place whilst Maria Magee , Paddy O Brien and Margaret Byrne shared 4th place.   Reminder Bridge Benefit Night in aid of Roundwood Community Hall is being held on Monday 23rd May at 8 o clock in community hall.  Entry is £10 euros per person, there will be supper and a raffle on the night.

WHIST

Next whist will be tonight Wednesday 25th May in The Parish Centre.

SET DANCING

Set Dancing continues every Thursday night in Kavanagh’s Lounge from 9pm til 11pm with music this month by the O’Kane family.  Come along and join us for a night of good fun, great exercise and a very social night out.  Newcomers always welcome and great way to meet some locals.  Cost for night of dancing and entertainment is still only €5.

 

PILGRIMAGE TO MEDJUGORJE

October 5th 2016 for a week. Cost €645.00 per person sharing. Monday 9th May was end of season prize giving night and North/South winners on the night were Ger Lenihan and Paddy  O Brien, 2nd Gertie Fee and Monica Brady  3rd Brid Clancy and Phil Power whilst Marian Davis and Teresa Leahy were 1st for East/West, 2nd Catherine McGillycuddy and Bridie Nolan and 3rd Margaret Byrne and Maura Gaskin.  Taking 1st place overall for the Season was  Monica Brady, 2nd Phil  Power, 3rd Bridie Nolan, 4th Brid Clancy & 5th Ger Lenihan.  Gaye and Triona congratulated the winners and thanked all the members once again for their continued support.  Play continues in Roundwood Community Hall on Monday nights starting at 7.45 and everyone is welcome.

002 BRIDGE CLUB 

Jim McNamara and Seamus Kennedy took 1st place for North/South on Friday 13th May which was our end of season prize giving day, June Digby and Rachel Judd 2nd, 3rd Gertie Fee and Gaye McGettigan .  1st for East/West were Philomena Kenna and Elizabeth Belton 2nd Margaret Bolger and Noeleen Redmond and 3rd Marian Davis and Teresa Leahy.    Overall winner for the End of Season was June Digby 2nd Margaret Bolger, 3rd Ger Lenihan, 4th Teresa Leahy & 5th Monica Brady.  Gaye and Triona once again congratulated all the winners and thanked all the members for their continued support.  Play continues on Friday mornings at 9.45 and all are welcome.

The results of the whist are as follows:-  Top Score: Mary Murphy & Mary Pierce (shared) Second Lady: Kitty Kennedy; Top Gent: Richie cullen; Second Gent: Ann Wolohan; First Half : Jimmy Molloy; Second Half: Tiney Shortt; Longest Sitting: Magdalen Kennedy & Lowest Score: Ann Pierce.  Raffle prizes were won by Patricia Pierce, Mary Pierce, Magdalen Kennedy, Maura McHugh & Margaret Kennedy.  Next whist will be tonight Wednesday 25th May in The Parish Centre.

A grant for the provision of a personal alarm is available to eligible applicants through the Senior Alert Scheme. The scheme aims to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities. It provides grant assistance towards the purchase and installation of monitored personal alarms to enable older persons continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind. The scheme is operated through Pobal via community organisations. The Roundwood and District Community Council is registered to administer this scheme in the area. The personal alarm offers reassurance to allow independent living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or a neighbour in the event of an emergency. CONGRATS LOTTO +2 WINNER

Congratulations to Centra Roundwood who sold and, hopefully, the lucky local person who bought their winning Lotto plus 2 ticket there which scooped the €250,000 jackpot prize on Saturday night. Now where is that ticket!!??

ATHLETIC CLUB

A date has been set for our Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser.  This event will take place in the GAA Complex on Saturday 22nd October.  The proceeds from this event will go towards the development of our new track and building.  We will be launching the event towards the end of May and unveiling our dancers

YOUTH TRAINING

Would you like your 5th/6th class child or secondary school student to take part in a programme which informs young people on alcohol harms & to provide them with skills to make informed decisions around same? Two separate programmes for these age groups will run in the Roundwood starting in early May. The sessions will be facilitated by a fully qualified professional youth worker with many years’ experience working with young people. The participants will be certified for completion of the programme which would run for a six week period for roughly one hour per week. The focus of the programme is to highlight the dangers of alcohol misuse. However the workshops will be fun & based on themes that can be applied to all the challenges a young person may encounter. The themes include right and wrong, alcohol, healthy choices, assertiveness building, peer pressure and self-esteem, mental and physical health. There is no charge for this programme and will be held locally. MONEYSTOWN DANCE

The Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday 13th May from 9.30pm till 12.  Teas served, refreshments also available, door prizes  Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing, jive etc. There will be no dance in June. We will be back dancing on 8 July.

FESTIVAL MEETING

Would you like to get involved in the organisation of the Roundwood Festival this August bank holiday weekend? The next meeting of the organising committee takes place in Kavanagh’s Vartry House on Monday 16th of May at 8:30pm. All welcome
