Roundwood Pharmacy celebrates 10 years

Roundwood Pharmacy are celebrating 10 years in Roundwood Village and are thrilled to announce a great week ahead for all their loyal customers in the area! They are giving away a hamper everyday from Monday (September 19th) to Saturday in store only to say thank you to all their customers who they greatly appreciate. Details of the giveaways each day will be on the Roundwood Pharmacy Facebook page –  but the giveaways will happen in the Pharmacy! So do drop in – it could be your lucky day

1916 MONUMENT 

On Saturday 24th September 2016 at 12.00 noon a monument  commemorating the 1916 Rising and the men and women of previous generations who lost their lives in the struggle for Irish  freedom and independence will be unveiled at the Garda Station in Roundwood by children from Roundwood and Moneystown National Schools.  The monument, which  is an exact replica in detail of the Proclamation , together with  profiles of the seven signatories, is cast in bronze and is mounted on local granite. It is the excellent  and exceptional work of local artist Ciaran Patterson.  The 1916 Committee of Roundwood and District Historical and Folklore Society invites everyone to attend this important commemoration and unveiling of the 1916 monument and wishes to thank all those who contributed in many  ways to this event

ANNAMOE CENTRE

Bowls every Tuesday night at 8pm, new members welcome.   Women’s/Men’s Shed starts back on Wednesday morning the 15th September at 10:30am. Why not come along for a chat and much more

BADMINTON

Badminton will started back in Aras An Tochar on Mondays and Wednesdays on the 5th of September at 7:30pm. All are welcome, both new and returning members. We will be having an opening week this week so if you would like to try out a new sport it’s the perfect opportunity! Look forward to seeing you all there.

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday 16th September in The Glenview Hotel at 1.30.

YOGA

Yoga classes will resume on Thurs.15th Sept. in Roundwood Parish Centre at 7.30p.m. to 9.00p.m.  Class will include Asana (Physical stretches and strengthening) Pranayama (breathing techniques), Deep relaxation & Meditation.  Cost: 10euros per class with minimum of 50 euro due on first night.  Class is accessible to most people as we work within our own limits. MATHS GRINDS

Rebecca Delamere will be teaching group Maths lessons on a weekly basis in the Parish Hall in Roundwood for secondary school students.  Class sizes will be very small and there will be classes at different levels.  These lessons provide support for students who may be struggling with Maths in school, support for students who are aiming for high grades and also prepare students for their Maths exams.  To reserve a space of for further information, please contact Rebecca on 086 0650129 or rebeccadelameremathslessons@outlook.ie.

GAA BUY A BRICK

An Tóchar GAA is getting to the end of its building project. In 2017 we plan to open a GYM which will be for the use of everyone in the community. This year we are selling ‘bricks’ to minimise the debt on the club.  Bricks cost from €50 to €1000 . Full details on antochargaa.ie , If you can help us please contact any parent or player at the club. Please support us as we try improve facilities for the whole community.

ROUNDWOOD DANCE

The Wicklow man will play in Roundwood Parish Hall on Friday September 16th – 9.30 p.m. ‘til 12.   Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing, jiving etc

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB

In the first competition of the new season Catherine McGillycuddy and Nancy O Brien came up trumps for North /South whilst Maura Gaskin and Margaret Byrne did it for East/West.   2nd for North/South were Phil Power and Monica Brady and 3rd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien.  2nd for East/West were Mary Pierce and Kay Plunkett and 3rd Pat Rushe and Marie Kavanagh.  All bridge players please note: Phil Power is running a Bridge night in aid of Roundwood Athletic Club  (Strictly come Dancing) on Sunday 18th September at 7.30pm in Roundwood Parish Hall.   Entry including supper £10.   Raffle on night all welcome and no partner required

002 BRIDGE CLUB

Maria Magee and Rowena Brady played their cards right for North/South to take 1st place on Friday 9th September in the first of this seasons competitions, 2nd were Monday night winners Nancy O Brien and Catherine McGillycuddy and 3rd Molly Byrne and Rachel Judd.    Coming up trumps for East/West were Jane Cronin and Gertie Fee, 2nd Marian Davis and  Teresa Leahy and 3rd Noeleen Redmond and Margaret Bolger.

MASS OF THE ANGELS

Our Annual Mass of Remembrance will be on Saturday 1st October at 6.30 p.m in RoundwoodChurch.  This special Mass will be for the parents and families of babies who died before birth, at birth, or in infancy, and for those who died in early childhood, youth and young adulthood either in recent years or in the past. We extend a very warm welcome to all parents, families, relatives and friends who have suffered such a loss

MUSIC IN CALARY

Music in Calary is delighted to host a concert and optional supper in aid of  the work of Sister Mary Killeen in Mukuru,Kenya on Saturday 17 September.  The concert, which will start at 8 pm, will feature mezzo soprano, Edel O’Brien, accompanied by harpist Geraldine O’Doherty, violinist  David O’Doherty and cellist Moya O’Grady. As part of this special event, there is an optional supper that will be served at 6.30 pm in the Church Room. Combined tickets for the concert and supper will be €40 and those for the concert only will be €18, or €15 for concessions. Requests for tickets should be sent to John at (01) 2818146 or derekneilson@eircom.net. There will also be raffle tickets available on the night of the concert with all proceeds going to the project in Mukuru.

A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8.45pm. Teas served. All are welcome.

SET DANCING

Set Dancing continues every Thursday night in Kavanagh’s Lounge from 9pm til 11pm with music this month by the O’Kane family.  Come along and join us for a night of good fun, great exercise and a very social night out.  Also we will be giving jiving lessons starting on Thurs 29th september at 8.30pm before our weekly set dancing session. All are welcome to these lessons.Newcomers always welcome and great way to meet some locals.  Cost for night of dancing and entertainment is still only €5.
