Roundwood Notes – 6th of January 2014


Roundwood Variety Group is rehearsing very hard for their forthcoming pantomime Sleeping Beauty which will take place from the 31st January to the 2nd February in the Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh.  Tickets will go on sale very soon; more details in next weeks notes.  Keep the dates free, a show not to be missed.


Fun Bingo will take place on Sunday 12th January in the Parish Hall 3pm.  Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend.  €5 per book and great raffle prizes.  Come along and enjoy


A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday 24th January in The Roundwood Inn at 1.30pm


Social Whist in Roundwood returns on Wednesday January 8th starting at 8.30 pm in the New Parish Hall.  Come along and enjoy a night of cards


A New Year Yoga Course will start on Thursday 14th January in Roundwood Parish Centre.  Class will be held from 7.30p.m to 9.00p.m and will continue for 10 consecutive Thursdays. The course will include posture work, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation.  There will be a special focus on improving the flexibility and strength of the spine during this course.  Classes cost 10 euro per class, with a commitment of 50 euro due on the first night.  All are welcome.  Contact Anne-Marie on 0868367578.


(I.e. Body Toning)  This is a full & total body workout for all fitness levels. It involves focusing on Toning & Training all areas of the body that need it! Everyone works to their own ability. Men & women are both welcome.  Class will be held every Wednesday evening in the Parish Hall from 7-8pm.  Please bring a bottle of water, a towel or a fitness mat for the floor exercises.  So come on lads & ladies…..let’s tone up, get fit & look great & in shape for the summer months!! €7 per class, (pay as you go).  Phone Mary on 086-4070270 for any further information.


The Roundwood and District Community Council are registered to administer the senior alert scheme which provides grants to elderly people towards the provision of personal alarms. The personal alarm offers reassurance to allow independent living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbour in the event of an emergency. Monica Brady and June Digby took 1st place for North/South in the final competition of 2013, Paddy and Nancy O Brien were 2nd and Maria Magee and Triona Woodroofe  were 3rd, East/West winners were Noeleen Redmond and Margaret Bolger, 2nd Rachel Judd and Molly Byrne and 3rd Bridie Nolan and Maura Gaskin.  The top 5 places in the September/December league were Elizabeth Belton, Ger Lenihan, Bridie Nolan, June Digby and Nancy O Brien congratulations to them and all members who took part.  Play resumes for 2014 on Friday 10th January at 9.45am new members and visitors always welcome.  Gaye and Triona wish everyone a very Happy New Year and look forward to another successful bridge season.


In the final competition of 2013 Phil Power and Catherine McGillycuddy took 1st place by one point over Ger Lenihan and Triona Woodroofe 3rd place went to Paddy and Nancy O Brien, East/West victors were Brid Clancy and Monica Brady, 2nd Molly Byrne and Rachel Judd and 3rd Pat Rushe and Marian Davis.  Top 5 places in the September/December league were Bridie Nolan, Catherine McGillycuddy, Phil Power, Pamela Byrne and Catherine Halligan congratulation to all and to everyone who took part.  Play resumes on Monday 13th January 2014 at 7.45pm, new members and visitors always welcome.  Gaye and Triona would like to wish all members and new students a very Happy New Year and look forward to another enjoyable bridge season.

Kilmacanogue History Society will present “The Martello Towers of Dublin and Bray by Jason Bolton in the Glenview  Hotel on Tuesday  14th January  2014 at 8.30pm..  Entry €3 (€2 for members) – all welcome


45 Card game every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8.45pm.  Teas served.  All are welcome.


There was no jackpot winner in the last draw.  The numbers drawn were 1. 10. 16 7 29.  There were three match three winners, Esther Carthy, Tony Birmington & Betty Cahill.  Next weeks jackpot will be €16,700.
