Roundwood Agricultural Show takes place on Sunday the 4th of August 2024
The Roundwood Agricultural Show (formerly the Roundwood Street Festival) is a family fun event in the heart of the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. The festival has been growing in popularity over the last few years drawing crowds from further afield so there’s something for everyone with dancing, music sessions and side shows including origami for children and Japanese hand massage, Tug of War, family attractions and the downhill ball race to name but a few. All are welcome to attend.
A big attraction is the Scarecrow competition with a cash prize for the winner. Call John and he will happily get you your supply of straw. Bring along your scarecrow on the day and position it at the fence of the festival field where it can be viewed by the visitors and the judging panel.
The show kicks off with a piper led parade. The field events start immediately thereafter with various sideshows including Tug of war, Bottle stall, Fair Day attractions, Kid’s Corner with face painting, bouncy castles and obstacle courses and Teddy Bear’s Picnic. There are plenty of competitions including hang tough, bar person’s race, sheaf pitching, nappy hanging and the ever-popular dog show! There will be vintage cars and other vehicles to view too and a fresh cuppa to be had in the tea tent with entertainment including singing, ukelele choir, drumming and more. Visit pets’ corner and grab a selfie with an alpaca from K2 Alpacas who are making a trip especially for the day! A new addition this year to our pet’s corner is pony rides so make sure and head there early to meet the two very special ponies.
New to the show are some fun, competitive show classes such as baking, flowers, vegetables and photography. We have also introduced some new sheep classes this year. All the class details can be found on our Facebook page so bring along your home produce and you might win a prize!
When you start to get hungry the BBQ onsite makes a great pit stop to recharge before the next activity. Our cooks are just waiting to give you the best burger you have ever had!
We also have a local bakery on site who will have an array of home baked goods on offer.
Have a browse around the many craft stalls where you can view and maybe purchase a handmade craft from some budding young entrepreneurs or from one of the more seasoned stall holders. You can also stop by the plant stall and purchase some gorgeous plants for your garden and pay a visit to the beekeepers where you buy some delicious local honey and find out about beekeeping.
Sunday evening’s street events will close with the festival raffle and downhill ball race at Roundwood Bank.
Wind down after all that activity by checking out some of the local bars or if it is more music and partying you want, head to the grand finale with music by the band “Altered Lines” on the street outside Kavanagh’s Vartry House and Woods & Byrne followed by DJ till late.
There’s something for everyone at the Roundwood Agricultural Show so do come along this August Bank holiday weekend. Raffle tickets for fabulous prizes donated by the always supportive local business community are on sale on the run up to the festival and throughout the weekend. They can also be purchased on the festival Facebook page. The Show is a community event. Charges to events are kept to a minimum, as the sole aim of the event is to cover the running costs and just have a good time so do come along and join the fun!
