The Great Roundwood & Moneystown Rubbish Round up takes place on Saturday 30th of April as part of the nationwide Spring Clean campaign. Lots of folk from Knockraheen, Sleamaine, Tomriland, Ballinastoe to Raheen have risen to the challenge. Now is a good time as the roadside vegetation is low and rubbish embedded in the ditches for years is very visible. There are a limited number of litter pickers but plenty of refuse sacks/recycling bags available for volunteers. If you are new to the area it’s a great way to meet the neighbours! You can do your clean up at anytime if the 30th does not suit. If possible please separate plastic bottles, cabs and glass for recycling. For litter pickers, bags or to make arrangements to collect rubbush bags if the need arises please call 087 2551579.
On Monday the 25th of April 2016 in the Parish Hall, Roundwood Professor Eoin Bourke, Emeritus Professor , National University, Galway, will talk on his book “Poor Green Erin”; German Travel Writers’ Narratives on Ireland from Before the 1798 Rising to after the Great Famine “. The book presents the travel accounts of 29 Germans authors who visited Ireland from the 1780s to the 1860s and details many of the trips they made in Ireland, including Dublin, Wicklow and many other counties. They describe in detail the conditions of much of the population and the extreme poverty and deprivation encountered, together with a very descriptive passage when one of the authors visited Daniel O’Connell at his home in Derrynane. The talk will be very interesting and all are invited to attend
