HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Dear Members and Friends,

On behalf of the Committee of the Roundwood Historical Society, we would like to invite you to our second Zoom talk of 2021, scheduled to take place via Zoom, on Monday, 22nd Feb. at 8pm.

This talk ‘’Surplus People – Assisted Emigration from the Fitzwilliam Estate, Coolattin 1847 – 1856” will be given by Jim Rees, historian, author and chairman of the Arklow Maritime Museum.

Jim’s talk is based on the research for his best-selling book, ‘Surplus People’, which deals with the clearance of 6,000 tenants from the Fitzwilliam estate around Coolattin in South Wicklow between 1847 to 1856.

As the talk is via Zoom we kindly ask if you can register with us by Thurs. 18th Feb 2021. You can do so by emailing roundwoodhistorical@gmail.com and we will then send you the Zoom link details ahead of the talk

This talk can be accessed via the Zoom app on your laptop or mobile phone. We look forward to meeting you all again via Zoom on Feb. 22nd.

VARIETY GROUP

Roundwood Variety Group (Committee, Cast & Crew) would like to thank and send good wishes to Pauline Fahy General Manager of Brockagh Resource Centre on her retirement from her position. Pauline was a huge and vital part and help to Roundwood Variety Group Productions down the years up at The Brockagh Theatre and will be missed backstage & front of house. However, we hope we will be seeing Pauline in the audience (or indeed on stage, ya never know) for our future productions when we all get back to normal and no doubt she will enjoy. Thanks and cheers Pauline stay safe God bless and we will all see you soon.

PERSONAL ALARMS

The Roundwood and District Community Council are registered to administer the senior alert scheme which provides grants to elderly people towards the provision of personal alarms. The personal alarm offers reassurance to allow independent living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbour in the event of an emergency. It provides security and peace of mind. If you would like more information, please call 086 8055040.

PARISH CHURCH 

Roundwood Parish Church Opening Times – for the month of February, and while in Government Level 5 restrictions, the Church will be open for private prayer from 9 am to 12 noon Monday – Thursday inclusive.  Please observe all Government guidelines relating to hand and respiratory hygiene and please wear a face-covering.

ALONE, the organisation that supports older people is operating a national support line and additional supports for older people who have concerns or are facing difficulties relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Ireland. ROUNDWOOD CANCER SUPPORT
