PLAYGROUNDS

Shay Cullen announced that the long awaited opening of Roundwood and Laragh playgrounds will take place on Monday 15th June, due to the Covid restrictions the official openings will be very low key with Laragh taking place at 12 noon and Roundwood 12.30. Playgrounds will be open to the public after the event under the current Covid restrictions and guidelines. Roundwood Playground has been a long time in the making, with many bumps along the road.Shay Cullen would like to thank everybody that has made this possible in particular Roundwood and District Athletic Club.

GOLF SOCIETY

Hope all keeping safe and well as the lockdown continues. Due to the restrictions our next two outings, Coollattin in June and  Woodenbridge in July have been cancelled. We’ll be in touch about our Blainroe outing in August, not looking good at the moment. Willie Kenna Captain.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

We are starting work on the 2020 Roundwood & District Historical and Folklore Society Journal, and we are putting the call out for articles, short topical items that are of interest to the whole community.  Ideally about 1000 words long, deadline for submission to us at roundwoodhistorical@gmail.com by Friday the 10th July 2020.

RESERVOIR DAM WALK

The walking trail on the top of the Upper Reservoir Dam is now reserved for vulnerable users and those aged 70+. All other folk are asked to please take the lower trail along the tree line which runs parallel. Thank you for your cooperation.

CALARY CHURCH SERVICES

While services at Calary Church of Ireland cannot take place during the current crisis, the priest in charge – Reverend Niall Stratford – is doing services on YouTube each Sunday. The link to view each Sunday’s service is Newcastle, newtownmountkennedy with Calary  To find the link, the spelling, spacing and comma is exactly as type

SCRAP METAL COLLECTION

The collection of scrap metal to raise funds for the Brockagh Centre was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who contributed. We are continuing with our scrap metal collection for now with the closing date on the 26th of June. It can be left at the back of our building for collection. Some of the items you can bring are Biscuit tins, steel oil tanks, steel window frames, steel coal bunkers, Radiators, Solid fuel cookers, Sheep wire, Bicycles, Old cars without the tyres, Wheel Barrows, Golf irons, etc. No Fridges, Freezers, Cookers, Timber, Plastics or Tyres.

MEDJUGORJE

A pilgrimage to Medjugorje will take place on October 7th 2020 for seven days at a cost of €679.00 fully inclusive. €200.00 deposit secures booking.  This trip will be accompanied by a Spiritual Director.
