Roundwood Notes Week 19th June 2018


Carol Curley would like to thank everyone who supported her Coffee Morning for the charity CRY ( Cardiac Risk in the Young) in Roundwood Parish Hall recently, everyone who came along on the morning & those who supported by buying & selling tickets & donating when they couldn’t make it.  To the wonderful ladies who helped on the day & the night before & who baked the most wonderful treats, I couldn’t have done it without you. To those who sponsored raffle prizes & gave generous donations especially Byrne Envirosafe Solutions, Compass Logistics Ireland, Druids Glen, Mountain Breeze, Lashes by Shannon, The Dome, The Green Room Florists, HD Hair Salon, Lorraine in Roundwood P.O, Terry’s Butchers, Roundwood Pharmacy, Keeleys Hardware, Roundwood Inn, Adriano’s Takeaway, The Coach House, Ashley’s Barbers & Sugar Mountain Cafe. The final amount raised was €2340 which proves what a fantastic community we have in Roundwood, Moneystown & Laragh. Thank you all so much



A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday 22nd June in Chester Beattys at 1.30pm.



The Annual Parish Cemetery Sunday/Pattern Sunday will take place on Sunday 22nd July. Please note that 11.30a.m mass will be celebrated in Roundwood Cemetery not in the Church on this morning.  This mass will be offered for all interred in the cemetery and will include a blessing of the graves



The Roundwood Active Retirement holiday will take place from the Monday the 24th September until the Friday 28thSeptember to The Tara Hotel in Waterford.  Anyone interested should pay their deposit to Betty or Molly before the 1st July.



Moneystown Midsummer Barn Dance and BBQ will take place on 30th June  in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8pm till late.   Music on the night will be Paul Molloy and the Whole Hog.   Fully licensed.



Kildare Wicklow ETB are currently advertising for grant funding under the community education programme. The Community Council previously facilitated courses on flower arranging, digital photography, IT and art. If you are interested in these or any other courses in the Roundwood area please email all suggestions welcome.


Pure Mile Walk

A walk to the deserted village as part of the Pure Mile project will take place at 11am on Sunday 1st of July meeting at the Wicklow Way junction at Lake Park (look out for the poster & balloons). The walk will follow the Wicklow Way then veer off to take in some fantastic views of Lough Dan and Luggala valleys. If it’s a fine day bring the kids and a picnic. All welcome. Limited parking available


The next meeting for those interested in the Baltynanima Pure Mile will take place at 8.30pm on Wednesday 27th of June in Roundwood Parish Hall. All welcome.



There will be a pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Island on Sunday 19th August leaving Roundwood at 10a.m. from the Parish Hall.  Cost is €65 per person which includes the bus, scones and dinner.  Money and names to Susan at 087 76273032 before 1st August, 2018.



Next Whist is this tonight Wednesday June 20th in The Parish Centre, Roundwood.



There was no jackpot winner in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were:-. 14, 20, 24 & 28.  There was six match three winners Peter Byrne, M.F.C., Christine Price, Ciara Quinn, Fagans& Anne.  Next weeks jackpot will be €16,300

The next concert in our 2018 series will take place at 8 pm on Thursday 28 June in Calary Church. Sean Carpio (drums), Mikkel Ploug (guitar) Simon Jermyn (guitar), Jeppe Skovbakke (bass), and Joachim Badenhorst (reeds) will play a concert of original music that will speak about the places of its origin, including Calary, in order to present a complex yet nuanced concert experience transforming musical elements of speech into music.  This an extremely exciting and innovative project and it will be wonderful to hear the performance which is the result of their work.  Tickets are €18 and €15 for concessions and, to make a booking or for more information, please contact John (01) 2818146 or

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group will now meet at the Knockraheen entrance (Newtown Road R765) to the Upper Vartry Reservoir at 7pm every Wednesday for the summer months. There are now a range of walks to suit all levels of ability. So do come along to walk at your own pace for approx 1 hour. All welcome



Deep Relaxation, Peace, Angelic Guidance and Hands on Energy Healing is what you will experience on Monday evenings in the Parish Hall Roundwood at 7.30. Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 to 9pm. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.



Rebecca Delamere will be running Maths classes for Secondary School students in Roundwood Parish Hall.  Classes will be available for 1st to 6th year students and are designed to focus on common areas that students struggle with.  Guaranteed small class sizes and places are limited.  For further information, please contact Rebecca on

A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at a new time of 8.30 pm for the summer months  Teas served. All are welcome.
