Roundwood & District News 27th May 2024

MUSIC IN CALARY

The following concerts will take place during June: 

SATURDAY 15 JUNE: Lance Coburn (piano) and Miriam Roycroft (cello) will perform pieces by Rachmaninov, Bax and Vaughan Williams. 

 WEDNESDAY 19 JUNE: Ella Nagy (piano) and Sulamita Pyvovar (piano) will play pieces by JS Bach, Cesar Franck and Franz Liszt. They will conclude the concert by playing a duet. 

SATURDAY 22 JUNE: “Ina Boyle and her World”. Orla Shannon (soprano), David Scott (baritone) and Aileen Cahill (piano) will perform a selection of songs written by Ina Boyle to celebrate the songbook of the Enniskerry composer, which was published in 2023. 

Music in Calary is delighted to be able to welcome all of these performers and we would also like to thank Wicklow County Council for their support. 

As usual, the concerts will begin at 8 pm with free parking available. If you wish to book tickets, which are €18 and €15 for concessions, or for further information, please email derekneilson11@gmail.com or ring (01) 2818118.

SHEEP DOG TRIALS RESULTS 

Congratulations to local man Adam Sharkey on running a very successful Open Sheep Dog Trials in the area recently.  Sixty three dogs competed from all over Leinster and as far away as Donegal.  Many thanks to Paul O’Donnell for eleven hours non-stop judging and to all the helpers on the day. Results: 1st Simon Moss . 2nd Adam Sharkey. 3rd Eamonn Connell . 4th Con McGarry. 5th Billy Ryan.6th Simon Moss. 

CREATIVE HUB MARKET 

Roundwood Creative Hub Market returns from 11am to 4pm in the parish hall. Eggs, honey, jams, baking, plants, flowers, candles, soaps, waxmelts, bathbombs, knitwear, toys, photography, jewellery,  artificial flower arrangements, ceramics and much more. Please support this initiative from local producers and crafters. 

CANCER SUPPORT  

Roundwood Cancer Support office is open every Monday and Friday from ten to twelve o clock for anyone who needs advice or help when dealing with Cancer.

Sound Bath & Breathe Work – Thursday 27th June of June @ Annamoe Centre immerse yourself in an evening of sound with crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls & so much more using our breath to guide us into a deeply relaxing state. Time 7:30pm-9:00pm

Day Trip to Kildare on Sunday 9th June. Visit to the Parish Church where the Relic of St. Bridget is kept, for Mass at 11 am and to visit St. Bridget’s Well, followed by some shopping time in Kildare Village. Bus will leave Roundwood at 9 am from the Parish Hall. €35 per person for Bus only. Names and money to Susan before 15th May. Susan: 087 627 3032. 

ACTIVE RETIREMENT 

Next Bingo Sunday June 16th. 2024 Membership is now due 15 euro per person, anyone that travelled in March to Rome has already paid.

Wicklow County Council Mobile Library will be in Roundwood Village on Thursday 6thJune 2024 from 10am until 11.15am and also from 2.10pm until 4.30pm. Come along and join the library. It’s a free service and is a fantastic way to pick up any book that suits your reading interests.

45 Card Game every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8 pm. Teas served. All are welcome.

HISTORICAL TALK

Roundwood and District Historical, Folklore and Archaeological Society.  Van Diemen’s Women. A History of Transportation to Tasmania by Joan Kavanagh. Joan is fascinated by local Wicklow history and its impact around the world, she has lectured at Irish-Australia Studies conferences in Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The author of 4 local history books and in collaboration with others. Next talk is 8 pm, 21st May. Roundwood Parish Hall Members €3; Non-members €5
