AGRICULTURAL SHOW 

Roundwood Agriculture Show: Takes place in Aras an Tóchar on the Sunday 3rd of August this year. Our Show is now the newest one in the country having beenofficially accepted into the Irish Show Association (ISA) this year. The Roundwood Show 2025 will feature five All-Ireland Qualifiers.  

They are the Fleetwood Paints All Ireland Amateur Painting Championship for paintings of an Agricultural or Rural setting, the All-Ireland Photography Competition, themed, Natural Landscape of Ireland (scenery), the GAIN All Ireland Championship for a toy or miniature dog, any breed to be handled by a child under 15yrs; and a large dog, of any breed to be handled by a child, 16yrs or over and finally the All-Ireland Intermediate Young/Shepherdess Championship 12 -16 years old. 

Details of all these All-Ireland qualifiers can be found on the ISA’s websitehttps://championships.irishshows.org/show-classes/ There will also be lots of other show classes to enter on the day including flowers, home produce, photography, kids’ artand craft competitions and much more. Don’t forget to put the thinking caps on now for your scarecrow for the scarecrow competition! More details on the Agricultural Show and associated events will be available soon. So, let’s get painting, snapping, pruning now and save that date, 

Sunday August 3rd, 2025! 

MUSIC IN CALARY 

Music in Calary is delighted to welcome back the wonderful Musici Ireland to CalaryChurch where they will play a concert on Saturday 19 July starting at 8 pm. The performance will⁸ feature Lynda O’Connor (violin), Vourneen Ryan (flute) and Beth McNinch (viola). 

The concert will begin at 8 pm with free parking available. If you would like to book tickets or for further information, please email derekneilson11@gmail.com or ring (01) 2818118.

Tickets for the concert are €18 and €15 for concessions and may be paid for by cash, cheque or card at the door.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY 

The annual summer outing of the Roundwood Historical Society, takes place next Saturday 12th July to Avondale House and Demesne. Members are requested to assemble at the noticeboard in the main car park at Avondale, at 14.00. 

A short, guided walk and talk on Samuel Hayes, the creator of Avondale House in 1778 and its magnificent arboretum. This will be followed by a guided tour of the house, the home of the Parnell family from 1795, at 15.15. 

The house tour costs €14 per person and entrance to the car park costs €6. Numbers on the house tours are restricted to 15 people – so it is advisable to book early! 

After the house tour, refreshments will be served in the Seed Café and members will be free to explore the restored walled gardens.

LOTTO 

Results of the draw held on Sunday July 6th. There was no jackpot winner; thenumbers drawn were 5, 7, 8, & 19. There were ten match three winners. S Wolohan, Gemma Eagers x 2, Damo Gaffney Mark Burke, Naomi Steele, Andrea Kelly, Tom Kennedy, Sean Byrne and Lisa & Abbie. Next week’s jackpot is €11,200.

SET DANCING CEILI 

Set Dancing Ceili on Saturday 2nd August in Roundwood Parish Hall from 9pm-midnight. It’s €10 entry and refreshments will be provided. The Templemichael Ceili band will be playing. Clare O’Toole 087 7649204 

CHILDREN’S ART COMPETITION  

As part of the Roundwood Agricultural Show on August 3rd an art competition for primary school children will take place. The theme this year is again around biodiversity on the farm and is entitled ‘The Real Bug’s Life’. Entries should be A4 landscape in size with the child’s name, class, school and parents contact number on the reverse side. Entries can be placed in the Roundwood Lotto box above the ATM in Centra Roundwood by July 31st 

CREATIVE BUGS  

The Roundwood Agricultural Show will also host a competition for creative kids to make a bug of any type out of recycled materials. Bug creations can be entered into the competition on the Show Day, the 3rd of August. So put the thinking caps on now and start gathering recycled materials for your masterpiece.

SOCIAL WHIST  

Next Whist will take place on Wednesday July 9th starting at 8.00 pm in the Parish Hall. Come along and enjoy a night of cards with us.
