Scoil Samhraidh in Moneystown NS

Moneystown NS will host a week long Summer School from Aug 13th to 17th. Children aged 5-16 are welcome to come along and learn to play some traditional Irish music on a variety of instruments. There will also be classes in singing and set dancing, so plenty of fun to be had! Places are limited. Please contact moneystownmusic@gmail.com or 087 3535627

BLESSING OF GRAVES

The Annual Parish Cemetery Sunday/Pattern Sunday will take place on Sunday 22nd July. Please note that 11.30a.m mass will be celebrated in Roundwood Cemetery not in the Church on this morning.  This mass will be offered for all interred in the cemetery and will include a blessing of the graves

 

PATTERN DAY

The annual Pattern Day Walk from Moneystown Community Centre to Lady’s Well Ballymanus Upper on Carrick Mountain will take place  Sunday 19th August, leaving Moneystown at 6 pm.  The route is five and a half miles in total (good walking shoes recommended and no dogs allowed!).  Suitable for older children accompanied by adults.  The route is along the road and then on Coillte roads.  Lady’s well is an ancient holy well that is marked on the Neville Maps of 1760 as an important site.  The well was rediscovered in 2013 and there has been a walk every year on or close to the original pattern day – August 15th.  There will be a short talk on the history and traditions of the holy wells and also relevant local history.  If you want to play music, read a poem or sing a song feel free to join in as singing, dancing etc were all part of the traditions of pattern days and visits to the well.  Refreshments after the walk in Moneystown Community Centre.  Any queries please contact Rosaleen at rosaleendurkin8@gmail.com. NATURE WALKS

Join the Wicklow Mountains National Park Guides on a children’s nature walk at 11am  on Wednesdays in July & August to explore various aspects of the National Park. Suitable for all age groups. An adult must stay with their children and be prepared to join in! No booking or charges apply. Meet at the Information Office near the Upper Lake in Glendalough. Topics to be covered include:, Wednesday 18th July: Wildflowers, Wednesday 25th July: Birds, Wednesday 1st August: Trees, Wednesday 8th August: Bugs, Wednesday 15th August: Mammals, Wednesday 22nd August: History. ROUNDWOOD FESTIVAL 2018

Plans are well underway for the return of the much loved  Roundwood Festival 2018 running from Thursday 2nd August to Sunday 5th August.  So keep  these dates free and keep and eye on this space for more details of what’s on and where!!

 

ACTIVE RETIREMENT HOLIDAY

The Roundwood Active Retirement holiday will take place from the Monday the 24th September until the Friday 28thSeptember to The Tara Hotel in Waterford.  Anyone interested should pay their deposit to Betty or Molly before the 1st July.

 

AN AFTERNOON WITH MARY DAVIES

Mary Davies is a renowned author, gardener, historian, books editor and a former resident of Oldbridge. She has written extensively over the years about the wonders of Wicklow – of times past and present.  As part of the Baltynanima Pure Mile, we are delighted to include this event where Mary will read a selection of her writings about Wicklow and there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask her questions.  The talk will start at 3.30pm in Roundwood Parish Hall on Saturday 21st of July and will finish by 5pm.  This is a free event. All welcome

 

OUR LADYS ISLAND

There will be a pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Island on Sunday 19th August leaving Roundwood at 10a.m. from the Parish Hall.  Cost is €65 per person which includes the bus, scones and dinner.  Money and names to Susan at 087 76273032 before 1st August, 2018.

 

POPES MASS

Roundwood Mini Bus Service – Pope’s Mass in the Phoenix Park – Sunday 26th August.   If there is enough interest, I will put a bus on to the Phoenix Park.  Please contact Gerry O’Toole on 01 2818561 before July 31st  to put your name down.  An update re prices and times etc will be issued after that date

Next Whist is on tonight Wednesday 18th July in The Parish Centre, Roundwood.

 

MUSIC IN CALARY

The next concert in Calary Church will take place at 8 pm on Sunday 22 July when Lorna Breen (soprano), Andrew Gavin (tenor) and Mairead Hurley (accompanist) will perform opera arias, Irish airs and pieces by Gilbert and Sullivan. Lorna is an accomplished young soprano from County Wicklow.  This concert is being held to raise much needed funds to support Sister Mary Killeen’s work for street children in the slums of Nairobi and there is the option of a delicious supper in the Church Room before the concert starts. The supper will begin at 6 pm sharp and the concert will start at 8 pm.  Tickets for the supper and concert are €40, while those for the concert on its own will be €18 and €15 for concessions and cam be booked from John (01) 2818146 or by emailing derekneilson@eircom.net.

 

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were 3, 6, 18 & 23   There was six match three winners, Lily Webster, L & W Belton, C Price, Eddie Hanway, Emma Wolohan & Suzanne Russell   Next weeks jackpot will be €17,500

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group will now meet at the Knockraheen entrance (Newtown Road R765) to the Upper Vartry Reservoir at 7pm every Wednesday for the summer months. There are now a range of walks to suit all levels of ability. So do come along to walk at your own pace for approx 1 hour. All welcome
