LUNCH CLUB
A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday 8th September in The Parkview Hotel, Newtown at 1.30.

NEW MASS TIMES
Parish of St. Laurence O’Toole – Week-end change of Mass times.  Started  on Saturday 2nd September Mass times will be as follows – Roundwood : 6 pm,  Laragh: 7 pm and Rathdrum: 8 pm and from Sunday 3rd  September Mass times will be as follows – Laragh: 10.30 am, Clara Vale: 9.00 am, Greenane: 10.15 am, Rathdrum:11.30 am,  Moneystown: 10am & Roundwood 11.30

002 BRIDGE CLUB.
Bridge in the 002 Club restarts on Friday 8th September once again in Roundwood Community Hall with play starting at 9.45am.    All Grades catered for no partner required and new members and visitors always welcome.   Any queries contact Triona 0877630968 or Gaye 0868746874.  For anyone out there who wishes to take up this wonderful game of  Bridge please contact Rory Egan   0868192765 ( a C.B.A.I qualified teacher) who will be teaching beginners   from the middle of September.

YOGA
Yoga classes will resume in Roundwood Parish Centre on Thursday 14th September 7.30P.M-9.00P.M.Classes will include Asana-Physical stretches (flexibility and strength), Pranayama-Breathing practices (energy flow) Yoga Nidra – Relaxation Meditation- Stillness Classes are open to all and cost euro 10 per class with a commitment of euro 50 due on first night.  Further information  Anne-Marie – 086 836 7578

MATHS LESSONS

MUSIC IN CALARY
The Janet Ashe Memorial Concert will be held at 8 pm on Friday 8 September in Calary Church, when Musici Ireland will play the two Brahms string sextets. Musici Ireland is a collaboration between many of Ireland’s leading musicians, who are all highly regarded soloists, chamber and orchestral musicians. Music in Calary is delighted to welcome them to perform two works which are rarely played due to their intricacy.  Tickets, which are €18 and €15 for concessions, can be booked by ringing John at (01) 2818146 or emailing derekneilson@eircom.net. As the last two concerts have been near sell outs, please book tickets even if you have to cancel them before the concert if you find you can’t make it.

WALKING CLUB
The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening starting September 6th meeting at 7pm at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximately 1 hours at the Vartry Reservoirs

AN TOCHAR GAA STRICTLY
Denis Healy’s Strictly for An Tóchar Fundraising campaign kicks off with a Fun Table Quiz on Friday the 8th September in Kavanagh’s Pub, starting at 8.30 sharp. Spot prizes, finger food and overall Winners Prizes. Raffle on the night. This is sure to be great fun so come along and enjoy the craic

Richie Cullen is kicking off his Strictly for An Tóchar campaign with an Irish Night/Set Dancing on Saturday 23rd September in Kavanaghs Lounge from 8.30 pm. €5 admission. Raffle on the night.

Val & Karina’s Strictly for An Tochar – Walk and Talk on the Reservoir Pathways Satruday 23rd September starting at 10 am.  Details nearer the date.

ROUNDWOOD HISTORICAL
The Roundwood Historical Society’s next talk in the 2017 Series will take place on Tuesday, September 12th at 20.00pm in the Roundwood Parish Hall and will be given by Ian Cantwell. The title of the talk is “Friends In Times of Turmoil: the story of Consul Dobrzynski, the first Polish diplomat to Ireland”. Consul Dobrzynski left behind an Irish daughter, the late Krystyna, who wrote a biography in 1998, and who in turn passed the inherited memory to her son, Ian Cantwell. Their combined research has now resulted in the talk above and an exhibition on Dobrzynski’s life, which opened at the Royal Irish Academy earlier this year and is currently touring other venues in the country. Seepolishconsulexhibition.ie for more information.  Ian is a member of Roundwood & District Historical & Folklore Society and former administrator of the annual weekend historical seminar from 1993 to 1997. Ian was also editor of our annual historical journal from 1994-1997. As well as a B.A (Hon), History & Geography from Trinity College, Ian also has a M.Sc. Palaeoecology from Queen’s University, Belfast. He has been employed as a Genealogist, trained with the Genealogical Office, Ireland and also worked with Duchas Family History Services and the Glendalough Monastic Trust as part of his varied career. CAR BOOT
The Car boot sale at Roundwood Parish Hall takes place on the second Sunday of every month. Set up is at 10, begins at 12. Booking is essential, indoor stalls available. For queries or to book contact Ben on 087 962 7527

VARTRY WALKS
The current path development and tree care works are being carried out under the forest service neighbourwood grant scheme in conjunction with vartry waterworks and Roundwood and district community council. The tree care work is required to make some trees safe and to promote the developing understorey trees in the interest of long term woodland development.  Any queries to Paddy Purser (Forester) on 087 263 3766

2018 TOUR
A 3 star Algarve Coast & Country trip will take place on the 27th February, 2018 for seven nights which will include visits to Silves, Lagos, Sagres & Faro.  The cost will be €429 per person sharing.  This will include breakfast and dinner in the Hotel Da Aldeia, Albufeira and day excursions and a one 10kg bag.  A deposit of €200 must be paid before 1stNovember and all monies to be paid ten weeks prior to departure.  For further information you can contact 087 6273032.

MENS SHED
John Akii Bua, exotic homegrown tomatoes with brown bread, Spanish onions, a donkey and cart from a hill over Tallaght, British Queens and carrots the length of your arm from Castlegregory, carrots nearly the length of your arm from our own raised beds – these were some of the visitors to a  recent shed gathering. So please come along and join us any Tuesday from 10 onwards. John Akii Bua was not there in person but we remembered him with fondness. LOTTO
There was no jackpot winner in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were: 1, 11, 13 & 30   There were five match three winners, John Cullen, W Culleton, Eamon Dowling, A Cullen & Nadia Tuckett.  Next weeks jackpot will be €14,200

WHIST RESULTS
The results of the whist are as follows:- Top Score: Mary Pierce & Mary Murphy (shared); Second Lady: Ann Wolohan; Top Gent: Tom McHugh; Second Gent: Kay Plunkett; First Half: Marie Magee; Second Half: May Kenna & Margaret Kennedy (shared); Lowest Score: Tiny Shortt & Longest Sitting: Magdalen Kennedy.  The raffle prizes were won by Richie Cullen, Ann Gaffney, Martin Byrne,  & Monica Brady  The next whist will be on Wednesday the 13th September in the Parish Centre.

MONEYSTOWN DANCE
The Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday 8th September from 9.30 till late.  Teas served, refreshments available, door prizes.  Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing,  jive, etc.

ROUNDWOOD DANCE
The next dance in Roundwood Parish Centre will be on Friday 22nd  September with dancing by The Wicklow Man. All are welcome.

45 CARD GAME
A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at a new time of 8.30pm. Teas served. All are welcome.

SET DANCING
Roundwood Set Dancing continues every Thursday night from 9pm til 11pm in Kavanagh’s Lounge, Roundwood.  Music this month with The O’Kane family. Admission remains at €5.  Beginners are always welcome along with anyone looking for a bit of exercise and a fun night out.

HOME PRODUCERS MARKET
Roundwood Home Producers Market is open every Sunday from 12 noon until 5 pm in The Parish Centre. Come for all your fresh bread, home baking, jams etc.  There will also be pictures, home crafts, plants and more. We look forward to seeing you all. New members always welcome
