Roundwood Notes – 9th of September

 

VARIETY GROUP

Roundwood Variety Group held their AGM last week and will be organising auditions for their forthcoming production in January over the next month.  Watch this space for more details.

MASS OF THE ANGELS

Our 6.30pm mass on Saturday 5th October will be a special mass of remembrance.  This mass is for parents and families of babies who died before birth, at birth or in infancy and young adulthood, either recently or in the past.  We extend a very warm welcome to all parishioners, and as in former years warmly welcome anybody from outside the parish who wishes to attend.

 FERN ART

Autumn Art Classes begin on Friday 11th October from 10 am – 12 noon in Roundwood Parish Hall & Centre – Drawing and Painting.  Beginners and improvers welcome. Individual attention given.  For more information contact Janet on 086 3042030

ART EXHIBITION

An Art Exhibition will take place in Calary from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th October finishing with the Annual Harvest thanksgiving Service at 3pm on the Sunday.  The Exhibition will open at 7.30pm on Friday 11th with music by Traditional Musicians.  On Saturday 12th it will be open for viewing from 11am – 6pm when there will be country produce on sale.  On Sunday 13th the viewing is from 12noon to 2.30pm and at 3pm all are welcome to the Harvest Thanksgiving service which will be followed by the usual Harvest Tea.  Details of how to enter paintings in the Exhibition are available from Gay Nuttall – 2818112 or 086 0605268. Entries must be received by Friday 4th October to be included in the catalogue.

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB.

DiamondBridge Club reopened its doors for the new season on Monday 9th September, in Roundwood Community Hall at 7.45pm, no partner required and all visitors welcome.   Bridge lessons for beginners commencing on Monday 23rd September at 8pm further details contact Triona 0877630968 or Gaye 0868746874.  

002 BRIDGE CLUB

Friday 13th September sees 002 Bridge Club commence its 2013/14 season in Roundwood Community Hall, starting at 9.45am, no partner required and all visitors welcome.

WHIST

The next whist will be on Wednesday 18th September in The Parish Centre.

ROUNDWOOD DANCE

There will be dancing in The Community Centre in Roundwood on 20th September with Music by Images, on October 18th music will be by The Wicklow Man and on 15th November music is by Tony Davitt.  All are welcome.

SCHOOL REUNION

Due to the huge amount of interest  for the Rathdrum Vocational School (Rathdrum Tech) reunion, ALL students and teachers who attended R.V.S at any stage are welcome to come along to the reunion on October 5th, 2013 at 8PM at Lynham’s of Laragh as part of the Gathering 2013.

Roundwood Parish Hall & Centre Bric a Brac Sale

Following on from the success of the last two Sales, there will be another one on Sunday November 24th from 12 – 5pm. Donations are being accepted on an ongoing basis into the Parish Hall any morning. Don’t Bin it… Donate it!

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were 3, 12, 15 & 21.  There were seven match three winners, Nora Power, Gerry Patterson, Kathleen Harmon, M Davis, Kathleen Higgins, M. Massey & Tiney Timmons.  Next weeks jackpot will be €11,900

KILLARNEY WEEKEND

 YOGA

A new series of Yoga Classes will commence on Thursday 12th September in Roundwood Parish Centre.  Class starts at 7.30pm and runs to 9pm and will include Posture work (ascina) breathing techniques (Premayama) Relaxation and Meditation.  Each class will cost €10 but a commitment of €60 for six sessions is required on the first night.  Class is suitable for all fitness levels.  Further details and booking please contact Anne Marie McKenna on 086 8367578

ROUNDWOOD AFC

Roundwood AFC Academy training every Saturday.  All new players welcome Mondays 6-7 – under 9 & under 10, Wednesday 6-7pm – under 11, 6.30-8pm.  Monday & Thursday – under 12, 7-8pm.  Wednesday 8-9 under 13 Under 14 – TBC.  All registration & fees for players to be done by 27th August.  Players registered before this date will be in a free draw to win tickets to watch Ireland play in the World Cup qualifiers.  Astro pitch available to rent €35 per hour Contact 086 3841027

ROUNDWOOD BADMINTON

The new badminton season has commenced on Monday and Wednesday nights from 7.30 to 11.30pm in the GAA Complex.  As part of Badminton Open Week we are inviting beginners, novices and past players to come and have some fun for free on Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th September. We will provide rackets and shuttlecocks so you can try out a new sport that allows you to keep active and meet new friends during the winter months. PERSONAL ALARMS

The Roundwood & District Community Council is now registered to administer the Seniors Alert Scheme. The Scheme aims to encourage community support for vulnerable people in our communities, provides grant assistance towards the purchase and installation of monitored personal alarms to enable older persons to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.   If you know someone who would benefit from one of these alarms or would like further information please contact Monica 086 8055040 or Betty 01 2818703.

 45 CARD DRIVE

45 Card game every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8.45pm.  Teas served.  All are welcome.

 HOME PRODUCERS MARKET

Roundwood Home Producers Market continues on Sundays from 12 – 5pm. Come and enjoy our home baking, crafts, jams, marmalades, plants, etc. New Members welcome

 

 

Community Council Meeting 9th of Sept at 8pm

The next meeting of the Roundwood and District Community Council will take place in the Old School, Roundwood at 8pm. The Community Council is a voluntary group which attempts to improve the infrastructure and facilities in the area through liaison with the local authorities and other organisations. Projects the group are involved in include the Roundwood Festival, Tidy Towns, development of a playground and youth club, organisation of evening classes, administering the Senior Alert Scheme, developing walks and the maintenance of the www.roundwood.ie  website and Facebook page. If you like to become involved in any of these activities or have any suggestions that would improve the area we live in please do come along to the next meeting or any meeting. The group meets on the second Monday of the month in the Old School at 8pm.

Sound of the Musicals Show

Stagebratz Starz Academy members, young and old will be taking to the stage this Friday, 6th of September in Lynham’s Hotel, Laragh for a show stopping night of music, song and dance from the most popular musicals. The show starts at 8pm with tickets available on the door, Adults €10 Children €5. A great night of entertainment is guaranteed.
